Did you know...
  • Current statistics indicate of every 100 high school graduates, 70 enroll in college of which only 28 graduate after five years. Of those 28, only 14 find employment in their chosen field. These numbers clearly point to the need for students to five attention to furture employment before they leave the K-12 education system.
  • 87% of all high school students never talk with a counselor about occupations/careers.
  • 10% of entering college freshmen go on to obtain a 4-year degree within 6 years of high school graduation.
  • 1 in 3 students drop out in the freshman year from a 4-year college/university
  • 68% of jobs requires a 2-year technical degree.
  • 30% of 4-year graduates take jobs not requiring a Bachelors' degree
  • 66% of students encouraged to go to college (57% of those in lower academic half)
  • 31% leave college with NO credits (52% of those in the lower academic half)
  • 43% of graduates report underemployment two years later

Many exciting things coming up....

January 14th -- 7:45 a.m. -- Practice SAT and ACT -- Take a free practice SAT or ACT test at Cypress Bay. Must bring #2 pencils and a calculator. Sign up in BRACE Office during lunch this week.

January 17th -- 6:30 p.m. -- Meet the new Superintendent Robert Runcie. He will be coming to Cypress Bay for a listening tour to discuss pertinent information to our community, students and parents.

January 25th -- 7:00 p.m. -- College Night -- A representative from the Department of Education will come to Cypress Bay to share information with students and parents about Bright Futures, FAFSA, scholarships and financial aid.

February 1-3rd -- College Tour -- Visit University of Florida, University of Northern Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State University, and University of South Florida. We will be touring the campuses, visiting the dorms and meeting with admission officers. Come to BRACE Office for more information.

February 16th -- 6:00-8:00 p.m. -- College Fair -- Numerous colleges will be here at Cypress Bay for our annual Spring College Fair.

March 22nd -- 6:30-8:30 p.m. -- Beyond the Bay -- Our 3rd annual program on everything you need to know to transition to college. 14 breakout sessions on what college admission officers are looking for, taking the SAT or ACT, writing the perfect college essay, math, science and engineering majors, and many more! Information from the experts! Don't miss it!
